Powerful, strong and fearless, are some of the most common attributes associated to a Shantanu & Nikhil creation. Their design philosophy is best defined using contrasts like feminine/masculine, hard/soft, defend/protect and that is exactly what I wanted this look to exude.
For the recent showcase of their Couture’17 collection in association with Swarovski, I chose to don this yellow crepe half-saree from their Spring/Summer’17 collection. I’m guessing you are well acquainted with my love for sarees by now, especially the ones with a contemporary edge like this one which is functional, chic and sophisticated without being over-the-top. The pleats on it are pre-stitched, which makes it really easy to carry and drape around. It has been paired with black skinny pants and a matching blouse featuring a Nehru collar – which really adds a regimental and a slightly androgynous touch. There is subtle detailing all over – thread embroidery and cutwork on the sleeves and back of the blouse and a beautiful leather border and tassels on the saree. Although the three-piece outfit looks spectacular just the way it is, I still felt like adding a little something to it, owing to my layering tendencies I guess. So I threw on another one of their impeccably tailored jackets to further elevate the sharpness of the look. And I absolutely loved the fit of the jacket and the way it just made the outfit look ultra sleek, but thanks to the humidity levels, I couldn’t possibly step out of the house like that. I did find another very interesting element to complete the look though – a black handcrafted leather box-bag from Swarang Designs, featuring beautiful Dhokra art. As for my jewelry, I chose a timeless pair of earrings with a matching ring by Eina Ahluwalia for Confluence featuring the most beautiful Scarabaeus Green Swarovski Crystals.
Sharing some images below from their Couture’17 offering – The Regiment, showcased at The Imperial, New Delhi. A compelling narrative of fashion and fortitude, the collection is a pursuit to reignite the valour, virtues, passion and conviction of vintage India.
“The Regiment derives its inspiration from the 3 strong virtues of the Indian armed forces – Discipline, Pride and Togetherness and is a crisp salute to everything Nehruvian. Dramatic and heroic re-appropriation of male presence through female form is the cornerstone of the collection. Convertible Nehru collars, vertical pockets, epaulets, handcrafted vintage coin buttons and rustic medallion like bejeweled brooches with Crystals designed by Chris Bangle for Swarovski preach equality connotations, whilst the roots are indeed authoritative yet transparent and not camouflage.”
